This is the third and last part of our how to start a blog series. When you have identified your goals, niche, and platform plus you have satisfied all the basic requirements of your blog site, the next step will be to create the content for your site.
It is not just about writing what you want. If you really want your blog site to take off, you need to stay within your chosen niche. For instance, this website is all about earning at home. My articles are all about the different ways you can earn from the comforts of your own home. While I may be tempted to write about the latest news or new gadgets, I need to stay within the niche I have selected.
In part 2, we left off with starting your website – which is step 7. That was the technical part of things. Now it is time to get your ideas into coherent sentences so your readers and blog site visitors will know what your site is all about.
STEP 8: HOW TO START A BLOG? CHOOSE CATEGORIES
Before you begin writing, choose your categories. These will serve as folders that will help your readers narrow their search for information. For instance, I have a category on this blog about freelance writing so anything that I write that is about that topic, I place it there.
In categorizing articles, you don’t have to limit the article to one category alone. For instance, this particular article can be categorized under Freelance Writing and Tip-Bank – being a how-to article about content writing.
STEP 9: WRITE RELEVANT CONTENT
Once you have finalized your categories, it is time to write relevant content. The sky is the limit for your topics but make sure you stay within your niche and you write information that your readers want to read. You can check out my other article about how to write for your readers.
It is very important that you write original content only. Now I don’t mean you limit yourself to unique ideas. You can get inspiration off the Internet but be sure to put them into your own words. More often than not, you should inject an original idea into every post – either an anecdote about a personal experience that is relevant to the topic or a personal opinion. This is not a PR article so you are entitled to input your own opinions.
Feel free to add images or videos if you think it will drive the point of your content further. An image or two should keep your entry from being too boring. There are a number of free image sites just like Pexels.
STEP 10: KEEP YOUR POSTS FRESH
It is ideal for you to update your posts every now and then. For new blog sites, you have to post once a day. As you reach 30 articles, you can lessen that to updates every other day.
Try to input articles in every category that you have created. If you feel you should input more categories, feel free to add them. The more information you place, the more relevant your blog site will be. Just don’t expect that you will get a lot of traffic immediately. That takes time and patience. You have to implement techniques to get people to notice your website and get them interested in what you have to say.
The last step involves marketing your blog but I feel that it should be given a separate article on its own. There are several techniques to get users to notice that you have your own site. But for now, implement what you have learned from this three-part how to start a blog series and enjoy creating your new blog. Build up the content to make it a relevant site to go to and soon, you may be recognized as an authority site in the niche you belong to.
